Explore!

So yesterday I went to Amsterdam to go see ‘Memoires of a Geisha’ in Tuschinski together with Klaas. Unfortunately I didn’t make a reservation and so I found out all tickets were soldout! So there I was, still feeling ill and with no movie to go to *sigh* Klaas and I decided to go have a drink at Cafe De Jaren (The Years) - interesting place, but their hot cocoa tasted horrible! And I like good cocoa~ during my early years in High School (ugh I sound old this way) together with a friend we ordered hot cocoa at different café’s and lunchrooms in my hometown. We planned on rating each hot cocoa we tried, although we never got to making a top 5 I still like to try the hot cocoa at every place I go *sigh*

I was so looking forward to the popcorn and the Ben & Jerry icecream. Luckily Klaas still had some movies he wanted to see and thought some of them I would find interesting too. So we ended up seeing ‘Syriana‘ a politically-charged epic about the state of the oil industry in the hands of those personally involved and affected by it. Starring George Clooney, Matt Damon and others… maybe I’ll write a review about it later. I thought it was a interesting movie and I can really recommend it to everyone. Later that day we watched the DVD of ‘In the Mood for Love‘ from Wong Kar Wai, a great movie about a man and a woman whose spouses are having an affair. It’s a bittersweet love movie *argh* And defenitely one you really should try to get your hands on!

Syriana In The Mood For Love

Our ’movie marathon’ really made me think more and more of a challenge I came across while surfing the web. I lost the site, but I’m thinking of setting up a similar challenge on my website. I won’t give away the details now, sorry. Although it seems spring is late in The Netherlands this year, I feel something is stirring inside of me. It feels like Sturm & Drang again… and I want to go out and explore! This summer I’ve already planned a vacation together with my mom, dad & big sister (my brother has to work during summer). We’re going to the Algarve in Portugal, for the 2nd time. This time we’re going to stay in Praia da Luz and travel to Lisbon and Sevilla (Spain) during our stay in Portugal! I’m going to make the first downpayment next week :D

Next year Klaas may be going to Madrid for 6 months or so. He’s not sure if he’s accepted (he had to apply for the trip), but if he’s going I’m going to visit him during spring. I told him he’s pretty boring and I’ll do the travelling without him ;) My mom told me Klaas kinda looks like my dad when it comes to travelling. My dad never planned a trip, it was always my mother who had to convince him to come with her  Ugh~ that’s soooo Klaas! I still plan on going to Japan next year, but it may be a trip limited to only Tokyo or Tokyo and Kyoto instead of a whole month travelling several places in Japan. But I don’t mind, there’s so much to do and so little time (not even talking about money).

Right, I’ll be back later with the whole ‘challenge’ thing  I feel an edit coming up…

Are you up for the challenge?

I’ve decided to set up the first challenge ‘watch 150 movies in the year 2006′. An easy one for the true moviefan, but are YOU up for it? Want to know more, be sure to check the ‘challenges‘ in the Visitor section (big blue butterfly) *ahem*

wow. thats so cute. i cant really drink cocoa cause it makes me sick. but its nice to have sometimes. :)

aw, it’s a shame about the first movie. but it’s nice that you got to have a mini marathon. :) I think now that you’ve suggested those two I’m going to have a look and see both of them.

p.s. hot chocolate is love!
p.p.s. when you mentioned the movie challenge, i thought of the one where you had to name I think 100 movies based upon screencaps. :P I think that’s a mensa test online. but the challenge you have is great. i don’t get out enough to watch that many new movies. :( do old movies count?

I’m totally up for the challenge!! It means I have to watch… more than 10 movies a month. Wow. That’s 2-3 movies a week. Woahhhh.

I need to rent Syriana. Memoires was good, but if you read the book you’ll probably not like it, or at least that’s the the book readers say. I liked it basically for the beautiful sets and costume designs.

Sevilla? Madrid? *is jealous* I went there back in, like, 2000 and OH MY WORD was it gorgeous. I wish so badly that I could go back some day. It’s the most beautiful place, so alive and exciting…

im so jealous ive wanted wanted to watch ‘giesha’ since it came out, but i dragged my feet & now i gotta watch for the dvd to be released, ah anyways, beautiful layout.

Hey! I love your layout!!!

I want to see those movies :( I want to read the memoires book!
Luckyyyy!

For me that’s not a challenge… it’s a way of life :-P

Btw, awesome layout! I love the colors.

Hah that’s no challenge for me. lol. I’m an avid movie watcher so I probably exceed 150 a year.

Japan sounds like it would be fun. I’ve never been there but I really want to.

I might rent Syriana - I’ve heard it’s a good movie.
