Ladybug, where art thou ?

I was browsing through my backup cd’s and I found some old digital camera pics. These pictures were taken on January 18th, winter here in The Netherlands. It was really cold and I remembered how suprised I was finding a little ladybug sitting on a small buxus tree in our garden. I used to find loads of ladybugs during spring and especially summer when I was a kid, I sure didn’t expect to find one during winter! Haha, it’s not that I collect lucky charms or something. But some people do consider Ladybugs a sign of goodluck! Finding one during the winter did made me feel kinda lucky
Ladybugs or Coccinellidae are found worldwide and there are over 4,500 different species! The seven-spot ladybird or Coccinella septempunctata is the commonest ladybug in Europe. Ladybugs are helpful insects because they love to eat aphids (plantlice) which damage plants. The ladybug is the symbol of the Dutch Foundation Against Senseless Violence. But did you also know ladybugs copulate for up to nine hours at a time, and males may have three 90-minute orgasms in one session! Oh my - I sure didn’t know THAT
