AishiBaby ep. 1

Even though Aishiteruze Baby (?) was aired in 2004 and I have already finished watching it when it just came out. I really felt like re-watching some older series during the dark & cold winter days. I’m thinking about picking up a total of 2 to 3 series and write about it here at my blog. This way I will be able to give my blog a little more variety :love: Anyway, let’s start with the first episode Yuzu is 5 years old !!!

We meet Kippei Katakura a serious playboy who rather flirts with girls than attend his classes. While he’s fooling around with a girl on the roof of his school, his teacher finds him and gives him a smack on the head! Of course all his classmates mock his big bumb on his head, except for Kokoro - she just thinks he’s plain lame

After class has ended Kippei receives a phonecall from his very strict sister, he has to come home right away! When entering the house Kippei bumbs into a little girl. He has no idea who she is, but she says her name is Yuzuyu Kippei is called into the kitchen where a family meeting is about to start…

It seems Yuzuyu’s mom (younger sister of Kippei’s mom) has abandoned her child. After her husband died she didn’t feel confident enough to take care of Yuzuyu alone Until she returns Yuzuyu will stay with Kippei’s family and - he has to take care of her! This way he won’t have time to play around with girls during school :twinkle: His first job as Yuzuyu’s big brother is to bring her to school the next day…

Of course Kippei forgets to pack Yuzuyu’s lunch and buys her pre-packed onigiri. Not a big succes at a kindergarten where every kid brings a packed lunch made by their mothers. Yuzuyu doesn’t seem to mind Kippei’s onigiri and she tells her classmate she loves them :saylove: The kindergarten teacher told Kippei to pick up Yuzuyu at 15h00, unfortunately he’s delayed at his school. He rushes to the kindergarten only to find out Yuzuyu has disappeared! It seems she left the kindergarten by herself

Luckily he finds Yuzuyu playing at a nearby playfield. Even though she acted happy-go-lucky like her mother told her, she really misses her and starts to cry. Yuzuyu thinks it’s her fault her mother left her - poor thing. How can a 5 year old girl understand what’s going on? Kippei promises Yuzuyu to not buy pre-packed onigiri, but make them for her just like her mother used to do.

Impression:
The first episode is really sweet and does a great job in setting up the story. You can’t help but fall in love with the cute little Yuzuyu -chan. Even though it seems a lighthearted anime serie, the subjects it touches upon is pretty heavy stuff. A mother who abandons her 5 year old little girl. I think it’s good the anime also shows the emotions of the little Yuzuyu instead of making it an all so happy and loads of fun series - ack and it still looks so sweet too
