Catch up!
Saturday I went to see my optometrist (?) for a check-up and a quickscan. I have really bad eyesight and I wanted to see if I was able to get laser surgery. Unfortunately my cornea is too thin so it wouldn’t be wise to have laser surgery. Next to that my pupil is really large so that means no implant lenses either *gulp* Even though my eyesight is bad my eyes are pretty healthy - I can be happy about that. The optometrist, who has been monitoring my eyes for 7 years now, felt really sorry for me. But since I’ve been wearing glasses and contacts for a large part of my life I didn’t feel really sad about it. He was suprised I was so sober about it
During the examination we started to talk about Second Life
He even looked it up on his computer and because he doesn’t have Windows at home, but Linux he started to look for a version for Linux! He said he COULD download it, but he WOULDN’T do it. And he started to chat about how he wasn’t a computer nerd, didn’t like Windows XP and how he installed Linux. I told him there were pretty scary stories on the web about people’s relations ruined because of Second Life and cyber cheating. He said that same things could happen with MSN and other things were you get in contact with eachother. And who said he wasn’t a computer nerd?
びっくりしましたよ ~
Even though I love to play SL I’ve been focusing on my school things too - of course. I’m busy with finishing my application for the Social Information Science minor, I only have to register for some classes now. I’m also insanely busy with understanding media economics, external communication and setting up a decent survey with my fellow project members
And I’ve just learned Leiden University students already are in their final week of college! I still have a few weeks to go ~ 心配しないで。I’m having a good time :saylove:

Minder dat je je ogen niet kunt laten laseren… Ik kan het waarschijnlijk wel maar dat duurt nog een paar jaar. Vroeger had ik een hekel aan mijn lenzen maar eigenlijk ben ik er helemaal aan gewend dus ik weet niet of ik ze ooit nog wil laten laseren.
Vertel eens
Wat is nou zo leuk aan Second Life? Ik heb het namelijk eens gedownload maar ik vond het niet echt heel leuk, maar ik snapte het ook niet zo helemaal

Well, contacts and glasses are not so bad. I actually told my ex husband at one time that I thought he looked better WITH his glasses than without.
I have heard of Second Life… it is quite a bulky program and you have to have a pretty good connection. It is interesting how you can design your person too.

I used to want to wear glasses a few years ago… They always looked so cool to me. Now, my eyes are getting so bad, I might need to wear them… But, that sucks that you can’t have your laser eye surgery.
You are really making me want to play that Second Life! Every time you talk about it, I have to refrain myself from going to the website!
Ha, Linux~ Only computer nerds I know have Linux. Other people have no idea what it is. Because I have a Linux computer, I suppose I can be considered a nerd. I wonder if that is a good thing. -_-

I heard a lot of SL, most of it from the media.
(cities, universities, etc..)
But I don’t like it. Just because it’s hyped, doesn’t mean the government should spend money on it

I’ve only had to wear glasses for a short time, but I’m in awe of you ’cause you deal with it so well ^_^
Second Life seems like a fun game. I’ve never played it but I almost registered once, but I didn’t because I don’t have any money haha. I play the Sims 2 PC which is close enough I guess

Well it is good to hear that you have a good attitude about your vision problems. If you’re ok with glasses or contacts, then it’s not such a bad thing that you can’t get the surgery. Now if you’re like me and too lazy to wear the glasses then you might have some issues hehe. That’s cute about your optometrist pretending not to be a nerd. Only computer nerds use Linux, most people don’t even know what it is or how to use it cause it’s so different than the default which is Windows hehe.

That sucks that you couldn’t get laser surgery. I got mine a couple of years ago and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s just so amazing to be able to see after 13 years of dealing with contacts, glasses and so on. Eventually, your eyes will physically get better and you might get a second chance.

Oh, I have really bad vision too! and it worsened so rapidly that my prescription got bumped up in pretty large increments for a few years, but it’s slowed down now. bad eyesight is really no fun!
Yeah, I’ve been wearing glasses and contacts for most of my life too. I’ve always just tried to look at the amusing side of it - funny how a piece of (high-tech) plastic makes you see better!

Im back online….thank god. LOL. Eh I wouldn’t be sad about the whole glasses thing either. I find them quite sexy. lol. xD
Oh I played SL, I found it kind of boring lol. SO I unistalled it….I’m more into auddition. LOL. Of course I don’t know if they have that out side of the US so I have no idea if you heard of it. It’s this dancing game kind of similar to Bust a Move from the ps1…if you ever played that.

I’m sorry to hear that you are not a candidate for lasek. That sucks, but maybe it’s for the best. It’s a tricky procedure and I’ve heard some horror stories about it. Anyway, I’m not sure what Second Life is, so maybe you can explain it to me? Good luck with your classes… it sounds like you’re uber busy!

There is a possibility for cheating on anything in the online world. As long as you can talk (chat) there is a possibility for cheating. It’s all dependant on peoples maturity levels.

Coincidental enough that he BROUGHT UP the subject of SECOND LIFe… scary O_O
however, laser surgery does sound a big extreme. Personally, I’d be happy if I didn’t have to go through it; I’d stick with my contacts and glasses =D
FOCUS ON SCHOOL NOW =]

I’m sorry about your eyes XD Don’t worry, technology is always being updated. Before you know it, you’ll be able to get it no doubt!
Second life looks kinda cool. I might just check that out now!
