Box of Crayons

Box of Crayons

While I was playing around in photoshop Klaas asked me why I never draw anymore  I have always loved drawing and painting, being creative. But it has been some years since I seriously picked up my pencil and started to draw ’something’. For a guy who loves oilpainting and scribbeling down his thoughts and feelings on small pieces of paper, my move to using pixels is a difficult one. When I told him I use my creative juices in photoshop and told him about my ideas for layouts and other graphic stuff, he said it was actually pretty cool - photoshop.

I was glad I could convince him of a positive side to bits & bites, using a computer program to create art ;) But at the same time I got an uneasy feeling. My laptop has become my box of crayons and more, it’s the doorway to all my creative adventures. Drawing, writing, publishing, connecting with creative people through the internet and creating a Second Life together with dear friends. But what happens if my laptop *gulp* crashes? Sure I have made loads of backups and burned them on cd’s, but if my laptop would break - I’m not sure if I’ll survive it :( creative wise… and other levels *hufffffff*

Should I be worried about this strong connection between me and my laptop? I wonder ~ but thinking about all the drawing & painting I used to do. Maybe I’ll go back to the ‘elements’ again during summervacation. Using pencils, paint … it would be interesting to see if I can still create ’something’ without using a computer program :P So, what about you - how is your connection with your computer. Are you able to live without it?

It’s amazing how we evolve and often only realize the changes much later. I feel the same WHENEVER my guy asks me about some “no longer sought after” creative outlet. I feel a sense of guilt, as if I lost a part of myself.

If my laptop crashes … well.. it’s 6 years old, so I wouldn’t be surprised… and I’d just do my stuff at work, hahah *backup plans are fantastic!”

It is unbelievable how people can depend on electronic accessories!
I perceived that by myself writing a long test some time ago with paper and pen XD
After a few minutes I got painful joints in my right hand!
The only reason of it, imho, can only be the fact by doing everything with my PC, Notebook or PDA (starting a lot of years now before)!
I am also a passionate amateur photographer too beside my job and have loads of pictures on my hard drives. Next to them music, films, or important documents and emails too.
Sure, I make backups of the most stuff – but what do you want with them if your PC or whatever will crash? ;)
*brrrrrrr* - horrible vision!

Haha, Second Life – yes that would be bad too! I am playing myself there too with all that joy, fun, love and interests like in RL! So I would loosing a lot of contacts with really friendly people :(
How can you tell them what happened? How can you make sure that they will not break the contact to you? Especially to my SLove ;)

So, I think we really should do more “old fashioned” stuff like writing letters, using real notebooks, making calls by public phones etc. pp.
Back to the roots babe! (*ordered a new moleskin notebook now*) haha XD

I use my computer for practically everything these days! Even when I have to do math, I just use the calculator on my computer because I’m too lazy to go and find my real-life one. Taking notes for classes, too. It takes too long to write everything out, and my hand starts hurting after a while when I hand-write my notes.

Technology just makes our lives simpler, but it does make me sad as I remember simpler times, when I used…pencils. Oy.

Oh, that’s a really pretty picture! The colors~!

I’m pretty attached to my computer as well. I’m kind of the opposite of you though, I started out being an artist on the computer and then later transitioned to paper and markers and paints and such. I’m glad for photoshop, though, without it I probably never would have tried drawing, and I love it!

i’d be lost without my computer, seriously. i use it for everything — talking to friends, managing my website, looking up things i don’t know. i could live without it i guess, but it would be way harder. :-P

Sweet Metal Gear Solid 4 layout. My connection to my computer is very strong, I blog 3, 4 times a day, maybe more at times. I am working on it, I play on it, I look at porn on it, how can you not be attached?

Hey there! Nice layout :] I agree with your statement whole heartedly. I could never live without my laptop; I am completely attached to it. Everything in my life is basically on it, so if I lost it, I’d be lost, haha. Without it, I’m not really creative because I have been blessed with absolutely no drawing skills, ha. Anyways, take care!
