The Waiting Game

Hmmm~ since I tend to be young and restless I try to practice my patience - whenever I can. But for a gadget girl it’s very hard for to wait *sigh* Now that I have found a pretty nice バイト I thought about buying a new desktop pc at the start of next year. But since I only know the basics of the specifications of a computer and it’s parts I decided to buy Hardware.info computer magazine to do some research. It uses loads of jargon, but is pretty understandable for a non computer specialist :)

The mag has an awesome article about the future chips of AMD (?). I already knew AMD has developed ‘Barcelona’ a true quad core chip, that means four cores are truly working together instead of 2x two cores put in seperately to work together like the quad core chips from Intel (?). The difference is that a true quad core chip from AMD has a better synergy between the cores and thus works faster and better. Next to that AMD already demonstrated a model that can work on 3 GHz! I already thought about buying a pc with a new Phenom chip in it, but …

Then I read on ;) and found out about Sandtiger which will be introduced in 2009 and is an octal core chip  :twinkle: No - not two, not four - but EIGHT cores !!! *shock* Of course a pc is not only made out of the chipset, but in 2008/2009 there will be another important development  Moving from BIOS (?) over to EFI (?) ~ er, what ?!!  Well let’s just keep it on: things are getting faster, better and easier for motherboard developers. Oh, EFI is already being used on different servers and Apple computers, but other developers like ASUS and MSI will probably start working with the new standard in 2008/2009.

So why this whole tech story? :P Hmm ~ when I think about it … my laptop is now 1 year old and 2009 is not that far way - we almost live in 2008 now. Even though the development of chipsets and such will always be on the move I believe 2008 is a year for big changes. Next to that around 2010 Windows 7 is planned to be released - the successor of Vista! ;) Even if the wait for Windows 7 could be long, there is always an option to get a more stable version of Vista!

 Suddenly a desktop pc with an early quad core processor and a slight unstable version of Windows Vista doesn’t sound that attractive anymore … I’m gonna play the waiting game!
